Various Homemade Wind Turbines

Video demonstrating various homemade wind turbines

In this video some simple homemade wind turbines are demonstrated, showing vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) and horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT).

The page for this homemade wind turbine video from this author can be seen here.

can you show in detail how to make the small one. luss adding the motor. and connecting to a betery charger ? please. i want to make this. but i dont know how to go about it 🙂 ?

My husband loves this! He has a tow motor DC battery and he wants to make this and store it in the battery. (if that makes sense. He told me? then ran to the garage, LOL)

Yes, I see what you are saying, very interesting, think i will try one myself this summer, there is something about your one here that catches me, “In my mind” though not sure what just yet, awaiting my brain to process info and get back to me LOL, in due course. will let you know “In due? course” !!, thanks for info. Thom
CEILING FANS HAVE …
By: MRGALLERIA. on 26 Feb 11, 06:37:47
Ceiling fans have many coils, and adding magnets to the rotor makes it possible to generate higher voltages. Not torque though, that is the turbines job. This design would have enough power to allow for gearing up the drive speed of the generator/alternator/ceiling fan. Compare the surface area of this design with that of a? typical bladed wind turbine.

Good? question. I cannot say, I have no cold wind here.

By: MRGALLERIA. on 26 Feb 11, 06:29:49
Normally I would agree. But this design has such a large air capture area, I don’t think a cowl would make a difference. This starts up in low wind speed, and has a lot of torque because so much surface area? is exposed to oncoming wind. I plan to put a couple more up.

By: FUELBAN. on 25 Feb 11, 13:57:25
I am, Running down a train of thought here mrgalleria, and I think if two units, were side by side, 1/ with a cowling, & 2/ one without a cowling, would each produce the same results, I favour the cowling? directing and using the force given to a grater degree, and so offering more torque, !! what you think mrgalleria?, Thom.
CONCERNING …
By: FUELBAN. on 25 Feb 11, 13:46:06
concerning expansion ratio’s, would a given area of sail / have more force applied by a cold wind, or be even to a hot wind ? over a given area….. what do you think !. I am thinking ratio’s of cold being compressed, but don’t? really know, just thinking out loud to you, LOL, Thom.
THANKS, I DID NOT …
By: FUELBAN. on 25 Feb 11, 13:40:54
THANKS, I did not know ceiling fans had more torque,” TA, but i see torque in two ways mralleria, 1/ is fine for transferability of power, 2/ is getting the power to create the transference in the first place, can the wind give enough power to the motor for this to take place,( I guess I am Asking the torque of wind) ? where is? the balance ?, is the root im trying to understand, any advice will be “humbly received”. thanks again. thom.

By: MRGALLERIA. on 24 Feb 11, 21:12:11
I may use a modified ceiling fan,? or fans. Lots of torque. batteries, yes, or maybe an air compressor.
WHAT SIZE OF MOTOR …
By: FUELBAN. on 24 Feb 11, 10:16:10
what size of motor will this drive ? could you show how you are connecting it all up !. do you hook to battery’s ? nice video looks good, I would kind of like to do one myself, as my roof gets all the wind from the fourth river, no buildings? blocking it, cold !, ” yes Very”, so there has to be some benefit some place, figure this might be the pay off for all that direct wind i get funnelled up the river LOL… Thom in Scotland.

very nice mrgalleria…love the ideas here, very well presented my friend.. here is a great idea for conserving land space for growing your own food supply, hydroponic gardening, saves space, grows faster, and uses? no soil..
